Sedation Dentistry
Ann Arbor, MI

Many people across the U.S. have dental phobias that prevent them from receiving the care they need to maintain good oral health. If this sounds like you, then we here at Everwell Dentistry can help. We strive to make our office a comfortable and safe environment for our services. While you are here, you are in control of the entire experience. We strongly suggest that our patients speak up when they are feeling anxious or uncomfortable. That way, we can go at the pace that makes you most comfortable. The mere thought of having oral surgery, no matter how non-invasive and minor, can make adults and childen anxious. Research shows that a large majority of Americans suffer from dental anxiety, which prevents them from keeping their dental appointments.

We also offer sedation dentistry for patients with severe fears or anxieties.

Reasons for Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is typically reserved for patients with a real fear or anxiety surrounding dental procedures. We may recommend sedation dentistry if:
•  You need a long or extensive procedure
•  You have a low tolerance for pain
•  You have trouble sitting still in the dental chair
•  You have a particularly strong gag reflex
•  You have sensitivity issues with your teeth and gums

Generally speaking, there are four types of sedation: minimal, moderate, deep, and general. During minimal sedation, you are awake but much more relaxed. To achieve minimal sedation, we may recommend an oral product, such as a pill or liquid. Moderate sedation can cause an amnesia-like effect and problems with speech. Deep sedation puts you on the edge of consciousness, but still able to respond to stimuli. With general anesthesia, you are completely unconscious.
