Preventive Dentistry
Ann Arbor, MI

Here at Everwell Dentistry in Ann Arbor, MI we want all of our patients to have great oral health that lasts them a lifetime. One of the best ways to makes sure your mouth stays healthy is to keep a rigorous oral hygiene routine that aims to prevent issues before they have a chance to get started. When you let your oral hygiene routine slip a little bit, the possibility for cavities, gum disease, and a whole host of other oral health maladies goes way up. Preventing issues like cavities from forming is the biggest factor in the success of your oral health. Let us help you to keep your mouth clean!

•  - Everyone knows that brushing and flossing twice a day is an important part of keeping your mouth healthy, but lot’s of people don’t realize that twice annual professional cleanings and examinations are just as important. Professional dental cleanings and examinations allow us to reach all of the areas in your mouth that you might miss with a toothbrush and floss, which helps to prevent buildup and keep your teeth healthy. We also check your teeth for signs of oral health maladies and take action to keep them healthy.

•  - Every time you come in for an examination, we will perform an oral cancer screening. While tobacco and alcohol use dramatically increase your risk for oral cancer, it can happen to anyone. If you ever notice a sore spot in your mouth that doesn’t seem to go away, give us a call right away at (734) 973-0000, and we will schedule an appointment to see you. Other common signs of oral cancer include:
•  Discoloration
•  Change in the way your teeth fit together
•  A sore that bleeds
•  A recurring sore

•  - The health of your gums is just as important as the health of your teeth, in fact, the gums and the teeth rely on each other for good health. The gums can become infected with an issue known as gum disease. It can be hard to know if your gums are affected by gum disease because pain and discomfort aren’t a common side-effect of the disease. If you notice that your gums bleed when you brush or floss, or if your teeth feel loose, you might have gum disease. Periodontal infection can easily lead to tooth and bone loss in the jaw, so it’s very important that you have your periodontal disease treated right away!

•  - When periodontal and gum disease affects your mouth, there is sometimes no cure, but that doesn’t mean we can’t treat the condition. When your gums need treatment because of infection, we can help with scaling and root planing. We aim to remove the plaque and tartar from below the gum line to prevent irritation an promote healing.

•  - Sometimes teeth are damaged so severely or decay so badly that the only solution is to remove them to prevent the spread of infection, in these cases we recommend a tooth extraction. Tooth extractions are a common procedure, but anytime a tooth is extracted you should consider replacing it right away!

•  - Brushing twice a day is an essential part of maintaining your oral hygiene. However, despite your best efforts, you may have difficulty reaching certain areas of your mouth. Your molars have cusps on the chewing surface, which creates deep crevices. Food particles and bacteria can gather in these spaces, and it can be difficult, if not impossible, for the bristles on your toothbrush to reach, leading to tooth decay. At Everwell Dentistry, we can help you to maintain the health of your teeth with sealants.

•  - Fluoride therapy helps to keep your teeth healthy for the years to come. The enamel on your teeth is what keeps them safe from decay and helps them to perform the fuction of chewing your food. Fluoride keeps the enamel on your teeth healthy and strong.
